Our winter reading challenge has been kicking it into hyperdrive! Our current reading total is 105, 894 minutes. We have had lots of student volunteers giving up their recess time to come in and decorate our school with all kinds of Star Wars related reading posters. Don’t they look awesome? If you missed it, our theme is “Read like a Jedi!”. Between January 11 and February 12 we are trying to read for 140,000 minutes as a school. If we reach our goal we will officially become Jedi Master Readers! We can do it!
Also, we have so many new and exciting books making their way onto the library shelves. A huge thank you to all volunteers who catalog, cover, and process our new materials!
Check out this great article in Sippican Week about our first Makey Makey group this past November/December! Thanks to all students who participated. Look for new permission slips to go home next week for the February group.
The end of 2015 was a blur in the school library! We wrapped up our first after school Makey Makey group. Parents joined us on Monday, December 21 for a demonstration. Students did an amazing job of showcasing their work. Way to go! I heard from several parents that they were impressed with the way that students explained their work and how the technology was functioning. Two thumbs up for all of you!
We also had our second annual Hour of Code from December 7-11. All students in grades K-6 had a full hour to experiment with writing computer code. Options varied for each grade, with older students using actual java script and younger students planning specific movements for computer characters. Fun was had by all! We can’t wait for next year. In them meantime, the links are still on our website under the “Students” menu. Enjoy!
